Possibilities and duties for the prolongation of the active life of the elder employees

The aim of the paper is to identify risks and problem areas with regard to the ageing workforce by analysing health, skill and age structure of the workforce, suggesting appropiate education, training programmes and workplace health promotion, that fit the needs and abilities of older workers, and can contribute to improve quality of work, and thus the productivity of older workers. Flexibile forms of work and working time, creating the „elder-friendly” workplace can impove knowledge management and knowledge transfer in company. The advantages of keeping the employement of older workers will be pointed out and the measures to optimally use their know-how, and the same time to reduce age related labour costs. Thus the prolongation in work of ageing employees brings benefit for all three sides, employer, employee and society.
