Szerafin Thinagl worked as an apprentice in a pharmacy in her hometown Nagyszombat. She arrived in Kolozsvár to register as a student in pharmaceutical sciences at the Hungarian Royal József Ferenc University in 1901. When she demonstrated her knowledge and enthusiasm, she won acceptance. With her courageous act she was the first to prove that women were quite capable of finishing university courses. She graduated as a pharmacist on 18 June 1903. In 1904 she married Mihály Pesthy, another pharmacist, making them the first husband/wife pharmacist couple. They bought the „Archangel” pharmacy in Déva. Their two children, István (1906) and Zsuzsanna (1909) were born in Déva. Mihály Pesthy made a bad investment, and had to sell his pharmacy in 1908. From 1910 Szerafin Thinagl worked as the manageress in the „Providence of God” pharmacy in Sárközújlak till 1916. From 1918 onwards they owned the „Angel” pharmacy in Isaszeg. With this, their connection with Erdély/ Transylvania ended.
