Necrotizing Sialometaplasia. Case Report

Introduction. Necrotizing sialometaplasia is a rare, benign, inflamatory condition of the minor salivary glands, simulating malignant tumors. It develops with fearsome clinical aspect, particularly on the palatinal mucosa but the prognosis is excellent with spontaneous healing in a few weeks. Material and method. Report of one case of necrotizing sialometaplasia treated at the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic Târgu Mureş. Conclusions. Because of its similar clinical aspect to malignant tumors correct histopathological diagnosis is very important in avoiding inappropriate, aggressive, radical surgical treatment.
