Iatrogenic lesions, complications among patients examined in the Department of Radiology, University of Pécs, Hungary

The incidence of iatrogenic lesions is not known exactly, according to estimation the incidence of iatrogenic damages are cca 10% in hospitalized patients, the frequency of serious cases is 2-3%; nearly 180, 000 patients die in the United States each year due to iatrogenic injuries. Frequent and unusual cases of iatrogenic lesions and complications are demonstated, which were investigated in the Department of Radiology, University of Pécs, Medical Center. The type of demonstrated cases: 1. postoperative, postendoscopic, postangiographic complications; 2. drog-induced iatrogenic lesions, haemorrhagic complications of anticoagulant therapy; 3. a case of the interventional radiology, transcatheter treatment of renal bleeding after renal biopsy. The authors review the incidence of some iatrogenic lesions according to literature data (frequency of gastrointestinal perforation after endoscopy; complications after angiography). The defintion and methods of the interventional radiology and the clinical and radiological chararacteristics of drog-induced pulmonary disorders are also reviewed.
