Study of Separation and Degradation of 1,4-Benzodiazepines

Written by Hancu Gabriel, Gyéresi Árpád

Benzodiazepines (BZD) are among the most frequently used psychotropic drugs, that is the reason why the elaboration of new analysis methods for these substances is a permanent necessity. The aim of the study is to elaborate a thin-layer chromatography (TLC) method for the separation of 8 frequently used BZD derivates. We managed to separate the 8 BZD using a Kieselgel 60 F254 stationary phase, a mixture ethyl acetate-cyclohexanconcentrated ammonia (50+40+0.5) as mobile phase and UV detection at 254 and 366 nm. Also we managed to separate by TLC the degradation products in acidic medium of the BZD mentioned above.
