Aim of the study: to explore the usable options in order to enhance the quality of nursing practice and education regarding the children’s behaviour after kidney transplantations and the attitude of their parents. Methodology and sample: a questionnaire was distributed at the beginning of 2009 in the Nephrology and Dialysis Department of the 1st Child Clinic of Semmelweis University in Budapest. We involved 67 families. The interview and observation methods were added to the test. We made the analysis with descriptive statistical method. Results: Based on the results of our survey in the case of the involved families we found that chronically ill children have to grow up very quickly, unfortunately. From their carefree word they drop into a life which is full of pain and examinations. Despite the homely and friendly atmosphere it’s a life full of expectations. After the transplantation, they have a new chance to regain their carefree childhood. Conclusions: Often the parents, the nursing staff or the children themselves can’t handle this “suddenly grown” person as a child. In lucky cases he/she doesn’t forget what the carefree childhood is like. In the study it was concluded that it’s necessary to keep self-awareness trainings for the medical staff, where they are prepared for appropriate communication and they have the possibility to exchange experiences.
