The successful treatment of osteochondral defects of the weight bearing surfaces is a great challenge for an orthopaedic surgeon. These lesions usually appear at young men and without treatment 80% of them will develop osreoarthritis in the first 5 years. The aim of the surgical treatment is to create a hyalin or hyalin like repair in the defect area. According to the literature, several new techniques have been developed in the last decade for the treatment of full-thickness chondral defects located in weight bearing articular surfaces. Mosaicplasty has proved to be an efficient method for the treatment of osteochondral lesions in the knee. In this study we present some of modern techniques in chondroplasty with accent on autologous osteochondral mosaicplasty.
