The contribution of abdominal ultrasound in the diagnosis of liver steatosis

The aim of this study was to assess the presents of liver steatosis and the importance of abdominal ultrasound in its diagnosis. The presents of liver steatosis was followed at patients examined with abdominal ultrasound, for 6 month. At 36 patients with liver steatosis, selected after established criteria, we followed the degree of steatosis, gender, age, SGOT, SGPT, GGT, Bi, triglycerid and cholesterol level. From 873 patients, 41,21% presents the ultrasound aspects of steatosis. From the 36 selected patients with liver steatosis, we found normal biochemical values at 23,52%. Most frequently we found hypertriglyceridaemia followed by elevated GGT, GOT, hyperglycemia, hypercholesterolaemia, GPT, hyperbilirubinaemia. After the degree of the ultrasound image of steatosis, the most frequent was the second degree. From 36 patients, 21 were women, the majority between 40 and 60 years old. Abdominal ultrasound has an important role in diagnosis of steatosis, sometimes this is the only examination which traces out it presence. Liver steatosis can be present also, without the association of well-known risk factors and it is diagnosed at the population most frequently, being a problem of public healthcare.
